Voltage detector delivers high accuracy

Rohm Semiconductor has introduced a high accuracy, ultra-low current consumption voltage detector (reset IC), targeting automotive and industrial equipment. The new BD48HW0G-C device can be used in a range of applications that require Voltage monitoring of electronic circuits for increased safety, including automotive electronic control units and factory automation equipment.

The BD48HW0G-C is a window-type voltage detector that uses high-voltage BiCDMOS processes with Rohm’s proprietary analog design technology. Window-type voltage detectors can detect both over- and under-voltage.

The voltage detector enables operating voltages up to 40 V (1.8-V to 40-V range) and features a detection voltage accuracy of ±0.75% over the entire operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. Rohm said the “detection voltage can be freely set, enabling high accuracy monitoring of abnormal voltages in a wide range of applications, from low voltage to high voltage.” This results in reliable systems with minimal incorrect fault events.

The BD48HW0G-C also incorporates the company’s proprietary ultra-low current consumption technology called Nano Energy, which enables a current consumption to 500 nA. “This is only 6% of standard products with equivalent functions and accuracy, making it suitable for applications where increased power consumption is a concern,” said Rohm.

Applications for the BD48HW0G-C include inverters in EVs/HEVs, electronic control units, ADAS, and in-vehicle infotainment as well as factory automation equipment, measurement instruments, sensor systems, and other automotive and industrial applications requiring voltage monitoring. Rohm plans to expand its family of high-voltage, single-type voltage detectors with fixed detection voltage and Nano Energy technology to provide greater safety in automotive and industrial applications.

Samples of the BD48HW0G-C, housed in a 2.9 × 2.8 × 1.25 mm package, are available now. Production will follow in October 2022. The devices can be purchased via Rohm’s distribution network: Digi-Key, Farnell, and Mouser.
