Tunable mux/demux ReDrivers support 20 Gbits/s data rates

Diodes Inc. has released its first ReDrivers that address the high-data-rate DisplayPort interface. The two new multiplexer/demultiplexer (mux/demux) Linear ReDrivers support the 20 Gbits/s DisplayPort ultra-high bit-rate (UHBR20) transmission mode.

The PI3DPX20021 is a 2-to-1, 4-lane mux switching device, while the PI3DPX20012 is a 1-to-2, 4-lane demux device. The ReDrivers are used ON graphic processing unit (GPU) outputs and enable high-end graphics to be shared from one display source to one of two outputs, or two display inputs on one display. Applications include mobile workstations, gaming notebooks, display monitors, computing peripherals, wireless display adapters, industrial PCs, docking hardware, and KVM switches.

These two ReDrivers support eight equalizer adjustment settings, in addition to four setting adjustments of the output flat gain and output swing to achieve better signal integrity tuning, said the company. This enables channel loss compensation and the elimination of inter-symbol interference (ISI) jitter, resulting in an extended channel reach.

The typical input-to-output latency of both ReDrivers is 0.5 ns. They are protocol-agnostic and transparent to link training. An input signal detection function allows them to be automatically placed into power-saving mode when their inputs become idle, said Diodes. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.

The ReDrivers are supplied in 32-pin TQFN (3 × 6 mm) packages. The PI3DPX20021 and PI3DPX20012 are priced at $2.94 in quantities of 5,000. The devices are Rohs compliant and halogen- and antimony-free.
