C&K has added a cold white illuminated switch version to its key switch product family. The K12S Bright White Key Switch expands the K12S switch series to deliver brighter illumination for high-volume industrial and automotive manufacturing applications. C&K said it has increased the luminosity of the K12S Series switches thanks to an advanced material that provides better transparency. The K12S series is available in seven standard LED colors and can be customized. The series includes an IP67 sealed version for use in outdoor applications such as automotive door locks, trunk openers, motorbike handles, and other harsh environments. An IP40 version is also available for less demanding environments. The switches are offered in DPST, dual-contact versions with a double-step actuation of 6/12N. In the DPST configuration, the K12S Series meets safety requirements for demanding applications in medical, military, avionics, or industrial equipment. They feature gold-plated, self-cleaning contacts with low contact resistance (<100 mΩ), 100 N overload resistance, and life cycles of 1,000,000. The switches’ low PCB-mounted profile makes them suited for mechatronics design engineers to integrate into complex sub-assemblies requiring precise control for joysticks, remote controls, vehicle cabins and forklift/crane controls, said C&K.

Densi-Pak battery holders. Click for a larger image. (Source: Keystone Electronics Corp.)
Keystone Electronics Corp. has expanded its Densi-Pak covered plastic battery holders with an option for a built-in on/off switch. The built-in on/off switch eliminates the need for additional components in designs using “AA” and “AAA” batteries, targeting self-contained power components in a variety of applications. The battery holders are constructed with an ABS plastic case and nickel-plated coil spring steel contacts for a low contact resistance battery connection. The snap-on cover design protects and secures the batteries in the compartment to prevent shorting or damage. Holders are supplied with 6″ long #26 AWG tinned and snipped wire leads for simplified installation. These switched battery holders accommodate two or three “AA” or “AAA” batteries. IP65 water and dust resistant versions are available for two, three or four “AA” cells. They are available from stock via Keystone’s global distribution network and at its website.

This family of LEDs can operate in high sulfur environments and are suited for outdoor, industrial, and horticulture applications that require high robustness, longevity, and efficacy, said Lumileds. Devices are available through Lumileds’ distribution network.
PQU1000 series AC/DC converters. Click for a larger image. (Source: Murata)
Murata Power Solutions has expanded its PQ line of open frame AC/DC converters. The new PQU1000 series is designed for industrial and medical applications that require a high level of safety. The line meets IEC62368-1 and EN60601-1 third edition standards for industrial and health-care applications; thus it is suitable for Body Floating (BF) applications and complies with 2 x MOPP (IN/OUT) and 1 x MOPP (OUT/FG) safety requirements. The series’ layout is optimized for free-air convection cooling making it suited for equipment in low noise environments. The PQU line delivers high efficiency at 95 percent. The compact design enables convection cooling at 800 W or 1000 W with forced air cooled up to 50°C. With convection cooling up to 800 W, it also allows for no fan applications up to 45°C without derating. It also features a power management bus (PMBus) protocol for improved communication with the power supply unit. Target applications include 3D printing, factory automation, test and measurement, displays, broadcast, power over Ethernet (PoE), and health-care applications such as hospital bed sensing, ventilators, and blood analysis equipment.
Brushless DC motors with CAN bus (Source: Nidec Servo Corp.)
Nidec Servo Corp. has claimed the industry’s first brushless DC motors equipped with CAN Bus for product pay-out mechanisms in vending machines, enabling motors to be connected to each other without a host computer. CAN bus is widely used as a communications network for transportation and industrial applications, enabling microcontrollers and devices to communicate with one other without a host computer. Nidec said it added the CAN bus to it motors “amid the growing refrigerant restrictions,” which are requiring vending machines to be explosion-proof, while demand is growing for brushless DC motors, which do not generate sparks.
