Melexis has introduced a single-chip LIN pre-driver for high-power automotive mechatronic applications up to 2000 W. Thanks to its high integration and small size, the MLX81346 helps miniaturize motor control in these applications, including oil pumps, engine cooling fans, and BLDC positioning actuators. The chip also can be used in robotic systems and e-bikes/e-scooters.

The AEC-Q100-qualified MLX81346 is the company’s third generation of LIN motor pre-drivers for 12-V, 24-V, and 48-V DC & BLDC motors. The device can support operation up to 1000 W from a 12-V supply or up to 2000 W from a 48-V supply. The high-voltage capability is thanks to the silicon-ON-insulator (SOI) technology, said the company.
Melexis said it is “the first company to bring a fully integrated 48-V pre-driver system-on-chip (SoC) to the market,” with the MLX8146 device completing its third generation of embedded drivers. It joins the MLX81330 and MLX81332 LIN motor drivers for 1 to 10-W applications, and the MLX81340 and MLX81344 LIN pre-drivers for up to 500-W applications.
The MLX81346 features a 16-bit embedded microcontroller (MCU), 64-KB flash memory, plus a LIN software stack and LIN interface (for connecting to in-vehicle networking infrastructure). It also provides 12 GPIOs including three high-Voltage I/Os and two UARTs as well as SPI and I2C interfaces. It also integrates all circuit protection functions.

The MLX81346 can be supplied in either 32-pin QFN (5 × 5 mm) or 48-pin TQFP48 (7 × 7 mm) packages. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 150°C. The compact pre-driver was developed as a SEooC (Safety Element out of Context) with ASIL B capability, said Melexis.
